What is OMT?

OMT is a form of manual medicine that is taught to Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.s). It stands for osteopathic manipulative treatment (sometimes called osteopathic manipulation or osteopathic manipulative therapy). It is used as a hands-on approach to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness and injury.

OMT is performed by moving patients muscles and joints using techniques such as stretching, pressure, and resistance.

DOs use manipulation to treat a wide range of medical conditions for all ages. It is commonly used to treat muscle pain (ie back pain, neck pain). It can also provide relief for many other conditions such as: ear infections, sinus disorders, asthma, constipation and carpal tunnel.

OMT can be used to complement traditional treatment or even replace drugs or surgery. It is just one of the tools that are available for a DO to help with a holistic approach to health to treat your mind, body, and spirit.
