Can you text your doctor?

I’ve been practicing medicine for over 12 years, and honestly, at all of my other practices, texting patients wasn’t even allowed. Access to the doctor was limited as much as possible to doctor visits (the only way that they can bill your insurance for payment). This allowed the doctor to “focus” on seeing a lot of patients each day. That didn’t stop me from getting texts about medical issues.

If patients weren’t texting me, then who was?

My family…they had questions about their medical care and couldn’t easily reach out to their doctors. I would (and still do — keep them coming fam) get texts from my family about medications, side effects, bumps to the head, pink eye, and more… I’ve just always considered that being a perk to having a doctor in the family.

Now all members of Blue Ocean Family Medicine have the same perk. It’s like having a doc in the family. As a member, you can text me with your medical questions. A few ways you could use this service:

  • text a picture of a rash or sore throat
  • request a prescription refill for your pharmacy or our in-house pharmacy
  • ask a question you forgot to ask during your last visit
  • get a sick note

As a member of the practice you will get my direct texting and phone number.
